I was inspired to create wings with the thick acrylic paste I use - with each sweep of the palette knife I could make a clear flight feather.  I was guided by photographs and paintings of this popular pose for an owl... especially a Barn Owl.

I am privileged to witness Barn Owls when I am out in the countryside near my home and studio, either when walking of an evening or driving, or just looking out of a window. I have been lucky enough to drive along a lane with one flying parallel to me for some time… I held my breath not wanting it to end!

Such grace, such effortless elegance and so silent.  It is something only my eyes can claim, for that fleeting moment I glide with that ghost like creature… in silence.
