About Me
Art and creativity have always been part of who I am. I have a NEED to create! I have painted in many mediums, but acrylics to me have the flexibility and (with modern advancements) the wealth of texture and colours I can work with. My speciality is texture, I love the feel of a painting and I love acrylic paste which allows me to create deep texture on my paintings. I 'play' with the paste, I find it a somewhat cathartic experience using palette knives to manipulate the paste on a canvas.
I also love colour, I am drawn to colour. Like music, colours can portray a mood in an instant and, like music, that mood is personal to each onlooker. Sometimes I let the paint bleed and run, let it react to it's surroundings, the irregular surfaces, I love the way it pools and creates colour depth. Other times I paint 'direct from the tube' and cover up with strong colour to then wipe away to reveal the textures underneath.
At times, I start with an idea, other times I don't. I try to 'feel' my way through a painting and not force things. That's the beauty of Abstract work. There are no rules and there is no right and wrong... only see and feel. I produce pieces that the viewer can also just 'see and feel'.
With the Abstract Horse and other Animals Paintings... things are slightly different, of course, as there is some recognisable form, but even in those, I aim to capture the essence of a feeling rather than a realistic representation of the creature.
With the Words Collection... these are part of an emotional journey and a desire to uplift others... art can inspire through image, but words are also very powerful. To emphasise a phrase in art gives it even more power, and viewed (and therefore thought about every day) is an effective way to change your life.
My Inspiration...? It's all around me, my mind is on 24/7, colours and patterns in nature, in my surroundings, in historic and contemporary art and design, even in products, packaging and architecture... it's everywhere for me!
